About David

As David tells it, it was about 15 years ago when his daughter started peppering him with questions about a medical bill. She had been playing basketball, hit her head on the floor, and $12,000 later, she had a lot of questions about an ER bill. As he tried to answer her questions, David says, “she looked at me like I had two heads.”

That kicked off a journey that continues today.

In 2016, with the help of many others, David formed BrokenHealthcare.org. A few years later, he founded Amaze Health.

BrokenHealthcare.org is still alive. It’s been mostly dormant for the last several years as David set public policy work aside to focus on Amaze.

But there’s still a great deal to do. Both marketplace and public policy changes are still needed.

The purpose of David’s public policy efforts were to create the economic foundation of an efficient marketplace through transparency pricing. We believe the new rules, which were only implemented in mid-2022, are just starting to have their desired impact as new innovative and entrepreneurial firms are borne to take advantage of the new paradigm of transparent pricing. If you want to read some of the history, please visit https://brokenhealthcare.org.

While brokenhealthcare.org is dedicated to public policy, this site (brokenhealthcare.com) is focused on the business of healthcare. In a nutshell:

.org = public policy

.com = business

The site will have a heavy emphasis on employers, because most working age Americans receive their medical insurance and other related benefits through their employer; but we’ll also talk about the fast growing market for self-paying Americans and the growing number of employees who are simply opting out of their employers insurance plans.

For many reasons, those above among them, the American healthcare system is going to undergo radical transformation throughout the rest of the decade. We hope this site helps you make sense of it, and make the most of it.
